The Branch, as with every church, has a larger weekly Sunday gathering. Our Sunday Gatherings reflect a celebratory feel of life transformation through Jesus Christ. We, like most church services, have musical expressions of worship and weekly 20-30 minute messages that infuse 10-15 minutes of life transformation testimonies. We’re looking to celebrate God and to celebrate others during our Sunday gatherings.
Because we want to celebrate well, our other rhythms play a huge role in making our Sunday Gatherings a success. It will be crucial, in addition to the stories from Laundry Love and our other areas of service to our city, for our Community Group leaders and Discipleship facilitators to sift through the life transformation stories and get them highlighted each week at the Sunday Gatherings.
Our Sunday Gatherings are held at 3445 Studebaker Rd., Long Beach, CA 90808 every week at 1030 a.m. Our Little Roots Children's ministry (3 years old – 6 grade) is also available, where our dynamic team of teachers take the next generation on a weekly journey in discovering the truth of God. We also have a youth ministry that gathers during our service to fellowship and study the Word together.
The pulse of The Branch beats by the “rhythms” of our:
Sunday Gatherings, Discipleship, Care, and our Community Groups.
Discipleship is discipleship. It’s the very thing that Jesus commissioned His original disciples to do and it’s the very thing we’re commissioned to do as His church. The Branch intends to make discipleship something its folks naturally do. We see discipleship happening organically.
Discipleship, at The Branch, simply follows the mantra as Paul stated in 1 Corinthians 11:1, “Imitate me, as I imitate Christ.” The idea is to have one person take one to two people under his or her wings and intentionally disciple them for a season, after which, those being discipled would then go on to disciple one to two people of their own. The focus of each discipling relationship will be personal accountability, reading through the Gospels together, and applying what they’re learning about Jesus in their lives and within their relationships.
The Discipleship rhythm of The Branch can happen within our Community Groups, but isn’t limited to it. We believe that Discipleship doesn’t necessarily begin at conversion, but could and should happen long before it. In following the examples of Jesus and the early apostles, Discipleship, at The Branch, won’t be closed off to non-believers. Discipleship will be a blend of believers and non-believers looking to learn more about the ways of Jesus.
Care is our outward focused rhythm. In addition to the specific “outreach” projects that are set up by The Branch, Community Groups and Discipleship also help to foster this rhythm.
Our Care rhythm looks to foster a spirit of eliminating the “let’s serve THOSE people” mentality. Instead, we hope to begin living in the reality of “we are ONE OF those people”. Community Groups also have the freedom to adopt local projects of Care that are within the neighborhoods they are planted in.
His Little Feet (HLF) is our ongoing service to help cultivate a heart for Care in our community. The mission of HLF is to share Gods love while uplifting souls with a new pair of soles to underprivileged children and homeless adults. They offer the shoes and uniforms along with a loving note to bring hope and restore dignity to children in need. We host quarterly shoe cleaning events in partnership with HLF.
We've adopted Washington Middle School and Cubberley K-8 with the intent of continuing a lasting partnership to serve the youth in our area. We currently provide school uniforms on an as needed basis, sponsor various Teachers' Appreciation events throughout the year, and are working to develop an ongoing tutoring program for the students.
We've also launched multiple Laundry Love (LL) sites. Laundry Love helps to wash the clothes and bedding of individuals and/or families who frequent local laundry mats in need of extra funds. From the infant to the aged, and across a broad spectrum of ethnicity, culture, and personal story, LL seeks to nurture the well being of each person through intentional networking and friendship building.
Community Groups are small pockets of believers “doing” life together for the purpose of growing in Christ and intentionally reaching the neighborhoods in which each group is located. Each Community Group gathers for weekly group discussions that are open to everyone of all faiths, ethnicities, and backgrounds. These discussions will specifically address current issues/realities and how God/Jesus/the Holy Spirit intersects with these realities. Dinners, of course, and basic fellowship are also components of our groups. In addition to the weekly discussions, each Community Group will find ways to serve their neighborhoods and communities.
